Writing Activity #1

What does it feel like to be wrong ?

We have all had a moment in our life when we were wrong. This moment could have been when answering a question or while in an argument. I know that when I am wrong I can be very reluctant to admit it. Why do I and many other people resort to these behaviors? From personal experience, being wrong can make you feel not good enough or unintelligent causing you to be defensive. However, being wrong can be a very good experience because you can learn and better yourself. “People find it far easier to forgive others for being wrong than being right.”by anonymous.

Colored Pencil Techniques

Colored Pencil Techniques 2: hatching

You will need three of the most common colors in the object you are trying to draw. Theses colors should be ranging from lightest to darkest. You will need to sharpen your pencil to a sharp point. If you are using gray or black paper use your lightest color first. Then gently make many strokes going in one direction. Repeat this with your other colors in the places you see value changes. This technique is used to create a variety of textures such as wood or grass.

Supplies Recommended: Prismacolor colored pencils and grey paper

Colored Pencil techniques

Colored Pencil Techniques 1: smooth, dull blend

You will need your your most common colors from the photo you are drawing. Sharpen your pencils to a very sharp point so that when you apply the wax down the pigment gets into the tooth of the paper without flattening it. You will take your first color holding it at the end or middle of the pencil to have a light pressure when applying the color. It is not about speed it is about quality so it will take many hours because it will take many layers to get smooth layer of pigment. Apply more layers of your color on one end so it appears to get lighter towards the other end. Lastly repeat the same steps with another color going in the other direction to blend with the previous color.

Supplies Recommended: Prismacolor pencils and drawing paper

Alcohol Based Marker Techniques [post one]

Alcohol Based Marker Technique For Blending

Alcohol based markers are different from normal water based markers because they have the ability to blend together. You first need to have marker paper to get the most even blend possible. One technique is flicking motion done using a brush nib. This means when you take you two colors and put a flat layer of your lightest color. You then take your darker color and with a flicking motion you will put heavy pressure where the shadows are and lighten the pressure where the highlights are apply. Lastly you come back in with the lightest color and go over where the two colors meet to accomplish a smooth blend.

Recommended supplies: Copic or Prismacolor markers and card stock
